I’m back from the Sarawak jungle. Ane and I had a great time in the deep forest. The first two days we lived in a kayan longhouse. The chief of the tribe, Jok Jau was the one helping us with all kind of things for the stay in the forest.
Before going out in the rainforest we had to buy things for the stay. Here is Minah, Joks wife, helping us to buy sarongs.
This is the express boats we had to take. The first one from Miri to Marudi took about 3 hours, the next from Marudi to Long Lama took also about 3 hours.
When we came to Long Lama, Jok was waiting for us in his own little boat. We had to go with him for the last half hour up the river to Sungai Keluan. Her is our other friend from the kayans, Juk Eng, helping me to get the bag safely to shore.
Here is where we lived for a couple of days. Deep, deep in the jungle of Sarawak.
Catch of the day: Monitor lizard. Juk and me went out to find dinner.
This is our room at the longhose. They laught of our mosquito net. Luckily we got hold of a better one for the stay with the penans.
The longhouse.
Dinner time. from the left is Juk Eng, Wan Ajang, Lahung Eng & Jok Jau.
Fishing time. Jok jumped out in the river with the fishing net.
William is using a big pole to scare the fish into the net.
One little fish was all we got.
A few meters from the longhuse is the bathroom.
Mujan is rolling tobacco leaves. She also likes a good sigarette, or cowboy sigarette, as Wan called it.
Catch of the last day: a wildcat. Unfortunately, or maybe luckily we didn't got the chance to taste it.
